Photo Essay No. 5: Versailles

Photo Essay No.5: Versailles

Very little needs to be said regarding Versailles. The palace was, well, palatial.  The grounds were hard to fully take in.  Mary Antoinette’s farmhouse was quite stunning and only “farm-like” relative to the grandeur and indulgence of Versailles.  It was insightful to consider the central figure celebrated in this palace—man.  Somehow, despite all the wealth, the celebration was inherently empty.  I was so interested to know that the state is endeavoring to collect the furniture that was sold, destroyed, or pillaged upon the demise of Louis XVI.
