The Future has not yet been released in Orlando, but I’ve enjoyed the host of clips online. I adore the detail afforded the scene above. The movie contemplates time and relationships. In this scene, the husband and wife are heading to their apartment, where she has cut off the internet. The wife is a dance teacher—notice how she takes her husband up the stairs as if dancing. Their interactions are so accepting of the other’s idiosyncrasies, with a subtle challenging. Just. love. that. I was listening to the Director, Miranda July, comment on the more seasoned stage of the couple’s relationship, marked by, “love that is not only kind.” Isn’t that perfect? And the humor, well, it is fantastic. I couldn’t help myself…there are a couple other clips below. Aren’t you moved by the “Signal” clip below? Oh, and her dancing…she and I share similar curves (haha, right in the behind), I’ll have to try that move next time I’m dancing with my nieces and nephews.

Now, this place is half the size of mine, but it has me dreaming of some changes. Three inspirations I take from the video: (1) small is not necessarily small; (2) color is happy; and (3) abstracts and photographs are a must.

Growing up, my dad, in reference to any collective action (by “collective,” I mean, involving 6 or 7 of his children), would hearken the need for a “whirlwind.” A whirlwind, for example, to clean the van after a day at the beach, clean the dishes after a meal, or weed the back hedge. We always had the advantage of our sheer number. Even if someone “had to go to the bathroom” (this was a common excuse) after dinner, you could almost bet there would be 4-5 other people who couldn’t also disappear on duty.
Now, living as I do currently, “whirlwinds” aren’t quite so crowded. I have consistent “whirlwinds” of one. Haha. But, Saturday morning, to my delight and surprise, a landscape “whirlwind” appeared. My yard, the beds, surrounding my cottage, were filled. My dad and I have gone back and forth: sod, rocks, mulch, beds, and flowers. They must have heard my deliberations and decided to make the decision for me! My front yard, prior to Saturday morning, was a bed of dirt. But, no longer. So. Excited. And. Thankful. My pots look even better!
The Phoenix, as you are all likely aware, is a mythological creature. A bird who lives for 500 or so years, bursts into flames, and among its ashes, births a new Phoenix. The name “Flight of the Phoenix” for the piece below is fitting. I love the shape, colors, and fabric. Neat chair from Spruce Home on Etsy.

This weekend was full of chores, cleaning, laundry, etc. But, I did manage to make it to a couple antique stores (with my mom and sister), which was glorious. I’m in love with my new additions. The candelabra would only have been better had there been a pair. But, in my current home, a pair would have been one too many. The vase is actually a sugar who is missing its counterpart creamer. I adore the color and shape; one can never have too many bud vases.

I’m considering changing out the crystals on my lamp below. My room, with its white walls, white bedding, and pale green rug and side table could use some weight—a bit of substance. I certainly need to address what isn’t currently hanging on the walls. But, that is a big decision. And, right now, I need something with a little less commitment. So, you may have seen House Beautiful’s “101 finds from the Hardware Store” which featured Antique Lamp Supply. For relatively little, a lamp or candlestick can be updated. There are so many options. I’m considering amber crystals or maybe reds and pinks.

I’m pleased with the rug and will continue to peruse Home Decorators Collection for further finds. It is soft and subtle and adds just the warmth I needed for the bedroom. Surprisingly, it makes the room look bigger. I would rate it a 4 out of 5, because, certainly, nobody or thing is perfect. Now, I can focus on some “punch” with accessories.

These dresses are heavenly. Dig for Victory boasts handmade clothing and vintage fabrics. The lines are defined and flattering; straight from the 40’s, 50’s, and 60’s. I think the orange is my favorite.

I purchased a new rug. It’s not quite here yet, but I think it may be a wonderful addition to my bedroom. I have this incessant habit of choosing everything in pink or green, but I’m hoping this one’s a winner. nonetheless. Rugs are funny things…there is a tension between the overpowering and the all too subtle. But, for $200.00, I was willing to give it a try….chrysanthemums are such happy flowers. And spider mums may just be my favorite chrysanthemums!
