ArtPrize

The competition and ad-hoc art exhibition is described by its founders as “a radically open art event.”  In its second year, ArtPrize is an art competition, with the winner taking $250,000.00 (the largest prize of its kind).  Artists from all over the States, and the world, can submit their work in hopes of being a winner.  Decidedly democratic, the “judges” are the public, anyone who attends the event can register to vote.   Between September 22nd and October 6th, the art is shown in an assortment of venues in Grand Rapids, Michigan.  The top 10 finalists are then submitted for a second round of voting.  Ran Ortner, of Brooklyn, took home the 1st prize last year with his large scale oil painting “Open Water, No. 24.”  Check out the piece in the Wall Street Journal Magazine on the event and the talk its creating among the establishment in the art  world.

I think this might be a nice weekend away next year…

  1. Beautiful...just beautiful. You can feel the movement in the painting...and I love it. Thank you Jordan for sharing something I would not have otherwise seen.
