I am often teased (this trip being no exception) for taking one too many photos. My nephew was recently asked about who I was and the only vision of my life he could describe was me, with my camera. Hmm. But, aren’t you glad this is so? There is no better souvenir to me than one’s photographs—photographer’s and subject’s imperfections included. Hope you enjoyed the trip!

Photo Essay No. 5: Versailles
Photo Essay No.5: Versailles
Very little needs to be said regarding Versailles. The palace was, well, palatial. The grounds were hard to fully take in. Mary Antoinette’s farmhouse was quite stunning and only “farm-like” relative to the grandeur and indulgence of Versailles. It was insightful to consider the central figure celebrated in this palace—man. Somehow, despite all the wealth, the celebration was inherently empty. I was so interested to know that the state is endeavoring to collect the furniture that was sold, destroyed, or pillaged upon the demise of Louis XVI.
